Four years of harmony

From a first rehearsal in the summer of 2022 to the International Contest stage — and a great many friendships along the way.

Our story

It started with a room full of strangers

In July 2022 a handful of singers around Pensacola met for a first rehearsal. Some had sung barbershop for years and knew exactly what they were listening for. Others had never sung a tag in their lives. Nobody knew whether it would work.

It worked. Within a year the chorus had a name, a chapter charter with Harmony, Inc., and a place on the Area 6 Convention and Contest stage. By 2023 we had qualified for the International Contest. In 2026 we did it again, and took home the Area 6 Sparkle Award for the most improved performance in the whole area.

Twenty-five of us sing together now. The door is still open.

Our director

Jacob stands in front of the chorus every week, and in front of the judges every spring. He is the reason a room of mixed experience sounds like one instrument by the end of a rehearsal.

If you visit, he is the one who will find your part for you — usually within about ten minutes, and without making a fuss about it.

How barbershop works

Four parts, no instruments

Barbershop is sung a cappella in four parts. Every chord is built from the ground up, and when it is in tune you can hear notes nobody is actually singing.
